Yoga for Disabilities: A Compassionate, Powerful Practice for Every Body in Greenville, SC

What If Yoga Was Approached With YOU in Mind?

Unfortunately, people with disabilities—whether physical, cognitive or developmental—are sometimes overlooked when it comes to wellness practices like yoga. But the truth is: Yoga is for EVERYONE. When adapted with intention, it becomes an incredibly powerful and affirming form of healing/support.

That’s exactly the heart behind Modified Ability Yoga here in Greenville, SC. I’m Jane Hart, Founder and Teacher, and I specialize in guiding individuals of all abilities—including those who are non-verbal, use wheelchairs, are bed-bound or have limited mobility or mental impairments—into a safe and meaningful (often, developmental) Yoga experience.

Redefining What Yoga Can Be

Forget the images of Yoga as only handstands and headstands. Adaptive yoga transforms that narrative.

Whether you or your loved one are dealing with challenges like cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, stroke recovery, multiple sclerosis, autism, muscular dystrophy—or simply need a space where modifications are embraced—there is a place for you here.

My approach is rooted in love, listening and adaptability. I work hard to meet each student exactly where they are, offering a custom-fit experience using props, supportive guidance, gentle movement and mindfulness.

Why Yoga for Disabilities? The Research Says...

Yoga isn’t just calming. Studies show that yoga can help with:

  • Reducing muscle tension and improving range of motion
  • Enhancing respiratory function and breath awareness
  • Regulating the nervous system, which can support those with sensory challenges
  • Increasing focus, mood stability and self-confidence
  • Creating a sense of autonomy and connection to the body

It can become a gateway of freedom, peace and self-expression.
